Steelers take HOF Game, 20-7

The Steelers looked impressive tonight, and the 1st string offense only played one 3 minute drive. Willie Parker sat the night out, and the Steelers' perennial Pro Bowlers were out after the 1st possesion. The Steeler defense held Drew Brees to 1/6-6 yards, and Big Ben went 2/3-73 yards. His first pass of the game was a 55 yarder over top to Cedrick Wilson. Four plays later Najeh Davenport took it in to set the tone for a game that ended more lopsided than the 20-7 score would show. The Steelers had 305 yards of offense in the first half to the Saints 56. The backups slowed the game down more and more as the teams went deeper into their rosters, but the Steelers prevailed. But it was just the first game of the preseason. No conclusions can be drawn, but I would like to.

Two takeaways: CB William Gay, the Steelers 5th round draft pick out of Louisville, absolutely lit Saints first round draft pick Robert Meachem out of LSU up. Ended his life for a brief moment. Better still was on the next play, where Meachem was given a chance to redeem himself, but upon seeing a riled up William Gay coming at him, decided he wanted nothing to do with the ball any longer, and avoided another huge hit. Gay later picked off Tyler Palko to seal the 20-7 victory for the Steelers.

Secondly, I was quickly and oft reminded of how much I hate Chris Collinsworth. It may be because he was a Cincinnati Bengal, it may be because he is the most retarded commentator to ever speak over the TV waves, but rest assured, I wanted him dead by halftime. MDK.

The Steelers and Saints will head back to their respective training camps; the Steelers to Latrobe, PA for another round of two-a-days, the Saints to wherever they practice for some sweltering heat and Jazz music playing negroes on the sidelines.

It is hard not to take away too much from this game, being the avid (if not affected) Steelers fan that I am, but rest assured, I am aware that it is just preseason, and the first game of preseason at that. But what a glorious preseason it started out to be. Next up, Packers - Saturday night.
