Fantasy Draft forthcoming

We are about to do our 2007 Fantasy Draft, folks.
Stay tuned because it will be recorded for your enjoyment!

So...

Not a lot is going on in the sports world as of late. And by "not a lot" I mean not a lot in football of course. Baseball is in full swing, but I can't care about that. Sportscenter is in the dark times. Basketball is about to draft, which is interesting but the buzz is over and a dude has reported that Portland will take Oden over Durant, so the Supersonics inevitably win the draft game because they HAVE to take Durant so it's win-win for them, even if he busts. Nascar is having some drama with crew chiefs getting suspended off the points leader's team, but I'm having a hard time caring about that too. Wimbeldon is going on, but until the quarterfinals, I'm not intensely interested. They are only in the second round of what is four to six or something. Right now Federer is up 2-0 in the third and closeout set of the second round. This is his 50th grass court win in a row (once he wins a few more games and finished 6-2 or something). That is quite a feat. If he wins this Wimbeldon he ties Bjorn Borg for the most in a row, with 5. That is sick. For one man to win a title that many times in a row. BUT, we are only in the early rounds and it isn't yet interesting.

So, sports are lacking right now. I would watch the draft but I KNOW who is going 1 and 2 so that takes some of the magic and mystery out of the tour. As for 3-10, there will PROBABLY be anywhere from 2-3 former Florida Gators in that mix and now that their former coach will NOT be coaching them, I'm not interested as much. Oh well. If anyone wants to talk sports this evening, find me at Pat O Brien's at Citywalk. Sweet, sweet hurricanes.

Those are my principles for now and we make magic with our mouths,

Craig

Vegas: A Brief Retelling

Briefly put,

Craig -1200
Mike +200

That sums up the trip financially, but what the numbers do NOT show is that I was stroked by TWO hot women, one Parisian and one African. Pollard can attest to the truth of this AND there is picture proof of my presence on stage at Zumanity - Cirque de Soleil. Is that worth 1200? I don't think so, but I can rationalize if I want to.

We had fun. We played poker. Well, Pollard played poker. I went in and out of drunken conciousness, assuming I was playing well (which I did 1.5 nights, but did NOT 2.5 nights, hence the losing).

I played craps, which is my new donkey game. Screw YOU, roulette, and the 700 dollars you stole. My new game is dice, son. Eight, skate, and donate... How do ducks go to the pond? Two by Two... Five, no ten on a hard eight... come on EIGHT!

Beyond the gambling there were a few good meals and one shining fact that Pollard can NOT handle the all nightsies. Yes, I'm calling him out. It is difficult to calculate, but I think from noon on Monday to seven AM on Friday, I slept 16 hours. Like a man. Two of the four nights, Pollard was all comfy in his bed. SURE, he came back with more (a LOT more) money than I did... BUT, it's Vegas baby. I saw the sunlight on the strip every morn and was so fatigued/messed up that I had to get a cab for four blocks the first night.

So, Pollard was the fiscal winner, but as usual, the comedy and stories should probably go to me. Plus, I got puked on.

those are my principles,

Craig

The ghosts are closing in...

Adam "Pacman" Jones is being charged with two felony charges for his part in the strip club fight which then led to the triple shooting back in February. Not good for Jones, who can face up to six years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines (I don't think he cares about the money so much though). Still, this isn't surprising. Everyone knew the charges were coming. It was just a matter of when.

This week

So it's just me this week, but it's not like many posts are going up on a regular basis anyway, so I doubt things will look different around here. Craig and Pollard have traveled to Vegas to gamble their money away, so no podcast this week. I also was out of town last weekend so we just didn't get a chance to get together and do the show. I'm sure next week they'll be back with plenty of stories. Unless Craig is winning. Then they will stay. I'm pretty sure Craig will stay in Vegas as long as he has $1 in his pocket. So we'll have to see. In the meantime I get to work and live vicariously through random text messages I get from them. Yay!

There are a couple of posts I've been meaning to write, but all of my free time has been taken up by MLB 07: The Show for the PS2. I just started playing this about a week ago and it's fantastic. The game play is great and the animations are amazing. I have only really played around with the Road to the Show career mode. For those that don't know, you create a player, and pick a team and a position you want to try out for. You play through spring training, but only as your player. You can sim to your next appearance, so the games go by really quickly, which makes playing 162 a year easy. After spring training you get offered a contract and try to work your way into the majors from the minor league teams. It's a lot of fun, and adds a new element to the game. If you have a PS2 and some time to burn, it might be worth the rent or purchase. And I usually hate baseball games, but this one seems to get it "right" for a change.

Update

Hi all, which probably means Pollard, Anne, Reggie, and a few other stragglers.

I just wanted to throw a quick post up and mention how well the podcast is going.

It is starting to come together or "gel" and I think we are all learning how to mesh on the air. Eventually, some people might actually listen to this mess and laugh. None of us can ever tell if the funny transcends the bounds of our friendship, but perhaps we will all finally find out in the near future as it launches on iTunes. I'm optimistic.

Get on the last post, download the show, set up your iTunes to automatically update by putting the something in the other thing (email Mike at 4thandgoalshow@gmail.com for the real way to do it).

Those are my principles,
Craig

4th and Goal, Episode 3

The new show is now up. We have the whole crew back to talk about all things football this week. Not only do we talk about all the big news stories from the past week, but we dive into what it means to be a fan, our Sunday rituals while watching our favorite teams, AND which one of us wouldn't take a Super Bowl ring if we were offered it (actually, there's more than just one). Not only that, but Craig has been working for weeks to come up with the perfect ending to the show, and he's ready to debut it tonight. You know you want it.

Right click here and select "Save As" to download.

And don't forget to subscribe to the podcast and get all the latest shows as soon as they are available.

Quick Life Rules

New Rule:
Under NO circumstances do you text, call, or message a friend regarding a major sports event if they went out the night before. DVRing a major sporting event is acceptable (and ONLY acceptable) if the night before consisted of alcohol consumption. One who knows he or she is going to go out can set the DVR to record a major sporting event the next day. Text, call, and messaging rights can be reinstated upon waking up of drunken party. Beyond that, the drunken party must contact YOU first before you send a message that STARTS with the victor, damn it. At least have some warning in your message. Start the message with "SPOILER." Something, you bastard.

Old Rule that must be revisited:
Bros Befo' Hoes.

New show coming together tonight...

4th and Goal, Episode 2

4th and Goal Episode 2: The Return of 4th and Goal! Yes, it's been a long time since our last (first) show, but technical difficulties and general idiocy can't keep us down. Our first attempt at this recording was thwarted when the save file of the show became corrupt. Then it took me almost a week to get this second taping of the show online.

Right click here and select "Save As" to download the show!

This episode we talk about the NHL and NBA playoffs, Trent Green's trade to the Dolphins and his status with the Chiefs, a debate on power running backs versus speed running backs, and our picks for best wide receivers in the league.

Green

We talked about it on the podcast (coming soon to an ear near you - look for Mike's post about that today or tomorrow) and now it has come to be.

Trent Green is ALMOST a Dolphin. Barring a failed physical, he will be in white, green, and orange by next week. In even MORE interesting news, Daunte has come out and said he'd like to compete for the job, which is contradictory to the reports that he wanted to be dealt if they picked up Trent.

Now, Culpepper wants to stay and compete, but Miami is looking to trade him. So, there will be an upset Daunte Culpepper on the market if anyone is interested. Any takers? His knee might hold up for 6 games and he might not throw INT-lasers instead of running out of bounds. Ya just never know.

Congratulations to Miami fans, though. That and good luck on Green's head staying on. Two seasons max! Shoulda drafted Quinn...

Weekend

Big sports weekend. The NBA Finals were set, the Stanley Cup Finals got interesting, and I’m sure something happened in baseball, but I don’t care. And of course for those of us in Orlando, the drama of Billy Donovan getting hired to be the Magic coach, and then getting cold feet and now looks like he will force the Magic to release him from his contract. Only the Magic lose in this situation, which sucks because that organization really needed something to get them to compete.

Game 4 of the Stanley Cup is tonight! And yes, for you HD whores it will be on NBC and broadcast in HD. Ottawa snapped their scoring drought and put 5 points up on the board during a great game Saturday night. Three times Ottawa had to battle back from being down a goal, and eventually grabbed the lead late in the second and was able to hold on to it for good. Hopefully this will be another exciting game tonight and Ottawa will be able to tie the series at two games each. Anaheim is now 5-0 at home in the finals, and 0-5 on the road. And they are also without Chris Pronger, who was suspended for tonight’s game. Something about how he elbowed an Ottawa player in the face and knocked him out. This series is great, and has everything that people would want. Lots of action, big hits, and they finally got some bad blood between the two teams last night, so there will be plenty of fighting the rest of this series.

NBA Eastern Conf. Finals

Lebron James.
Wow.

48 points. 29 of the final 30 Cavalier points. The only Cavalier to score from 6:00 minutes left in the 4th quarter, through TWO overtime periods. Hit the last 11 Cavalier buckets in a row.

One of the "greatest NBA playoff performances of all time."

Too his detractors and naysayers - it is almost time to shut up. Now, I've been watching him pull up on shots and dish it out, not hit the rack with authority, and overall just phone it in. Last night, in Detroit, with the series tied 2-2, Lebron showed up in the 2nd half. He had a mere 12 or 13 points in the first half, ballooning that total to 48 by games end. He looked tired, haggard, and drained by the end, but the Cavs are 3-2 and going home for Saturday night.

Good luck, King James. Has your time come?
