Favre

So, the soon to be all-time TD throwing QB might want a trade out of Wisconsin. What do we think of that?

We think it could be fantastic for a team to pick him up... on the business side of things. Selling tickets, jerseys, etc... I'm sure there are some teams that would actually start him, if they got him (Cleveland, Miami, Delaware State University, etc...), however, this debate has been presented before and the argument MIGHT be even weaker now.

How many teams should go after Brett Favre and how many head coaches/front offices would start him in this upcoming 2008 season?

My thoughts: Buffalo (maybe, but they love JP), Miami, Cleveland, Jacksonville, Oakland (let the big investment in JaMarcus sit a few games), Washington, Dallas (if Jerry Jones got a little crazy), Detroit, Minnesota, Tampa Bay (kind of a stretch). So, I think that 10 teams have a need that Favre could fill. Lay on the disagreement...

Favre is NOT going to get traded. Reports are that he's upset that the team didn't make a strong enough move for Randy Moss. This is crazy talk, because Moss hasn't produced on the field in years. A future hall of fame QB is not going to get upset and demand to be traded because his team didn't sign Randy Moss.

Now, having said that, Favre has a point. He has little help, and the team is not doing much to help him out. The trading talk is a quick reaction he had after the draft. Cooler heads will prevail and he will be a Packer for the rest of his career.

Now, on to the question of what teams would make a trade for him, that depends. The Packers aren't going to let him go for cheap, so a team will have to be willing to give up a LOT to take him in.

Buffalo ~ Maybe. He could bring them in and take them to the playoffs, but then again they are a team on the rise, and could be in the playoffs this year if they keep maturing. I don't think he'll be worth what they would have to give up for him.

Miami ~ Yes. I think Miami would be much more competitive if they had Favre under center. With a good quarterback, they could compete with most other teams in the league. Favre only has 1 or 2 seasons left, and that's about all that Miami defense will have before all of the old stars start to go down. That would probably be the best fit for Favre.

Cleveland ~ I don't think Cleveland would benefit much from this trade, once you take in consideration what they would have to give up for him. Still, they would probably throw down an offer on him.

Oakland ~ They could really use a veteran QB right now. Even though they got Russell, they could let him sit on the bench for a year while Favre plays. The problem is that Favre wont make that team a winner, and then fans will get restless for Russell to come in. Plus, outside of draft picks, there's no one on that team the Packers would really want.

Washington ~ Why not? This is what they do. Go after high profile players after their prime. The only difference is this would be through a trade, rather than an overpriced free agency pick-up. The outcome would be the same though.

Detroit ~ Somebody has to throw to all of those receivers.

Minnesota ~ Currently Minnesota has Tarvaris Jackson listed as the number one QB, according to ESPN.com. He played in 4 games last year, and all of those were losses. They might want to add some veteran talent to their team, at least until this kid grows up a little bit.

These are the only teams that I think would even try to trade for Favre. Of these, I think only four teams would actually benefit from it. The rest I think would just break even.
