Draft Analysis: NFC East
Dallas Cowboys – Lackluster
The Cowboys did some trading, which could turn out to be fantastic, but as it stands, they picked up Anthony Spencer with a traded down pick. They do need DE help, but there were plenty of guys available. Spencer isn’t a gamble, but the ‘Boys could’ve gambled on one of the less pure players. In later rounds, the Cowboys went with O-line, which is good for Julius Jones. I have no idea with Isaiah Stanback is, but he is going to hold Tony Romo’s clipboards if he makes the cut, so that doesn’t matter. Interestingly enough, they drafted a kicker, so he may make up for the amazing accuracy of Vanderjagt. His name is Nick Folk, which won’t warrant remembering unless he starts kicking 3-FGs a game.
New York Giants – Pleasant
The Giants came out strong picking up some DB help with Aaron Ross of Texas. Some analysts were saying this was too high for Ross. I’m sure others disagreed. These guys are all over the place. All in all, the G-men need some help back there. Ross can start immediately and most likely will. In the second round, the Giants got an arguable bargain in Steve Smith, the talented WR from USC. Smith and Dwayne Jarrett were a great team for USC last season and both have the potential to be big time, deep threats. In the later rounds, New York filled out some gaps at tackle, line backer and even grabbed a 7th round running back. Unfortunately, unless this guy is Marques Colston-esque, the Giants will have no use for him.
Philadelphia Eagles – Angering
What? Why? Damn it, Andy Reid. How can you show confidence in your franchise QB if you are drafting a QB with the first pick in your draft? Granted, Kolb is a decent prospect, starting over 50 games in the NCAA, but D-Nabb is valuable, broken or not. The guy has put Philly on the map this decade. So, they take Kolb first and pick up a Notre Dame DE in the second round. From there, Philly picked up some assistance at OLB, RB, CB, and TE. I just don’t see how a team like Philly can pass up on wide array of other players and take a QB when Donovan McNabb is rehabbing to play. The man has shown (after injuries) that he can be one of the most dangerous players in the NFL. Boo, Andy, Boo.
Washington Redskins – Forgetful
Danny Snyder had only one pick in the first four rounds, so this analysis will be brief. The Skins chose to solidify their defensive backfield, giving them the best safety duo in Sean Taylor and LaRon Landry. Landry, from LSU, is talented and safeties have proven to be the least likely busts in the first round. From there, Washington added some linebackers, a QB from UTEP (Jordan Palmer) and a TE. The late round additions will have to work to make the roster, but the 2007 Draft was essentially LaRon Landry for the Redskins. Good luck, Portis, you will still have no protection running through the gaps.

Your bias for the Giants shines through the darkness which was their draft, of which more pundits than not are calling the worst draft this year. Their glaring need was a backer, and they waited until late to get their guy. They also need DE help, since Strahan looks to be on his way out of NY. Bad news for the G-men.
I see what the angering thing with drafting Kolb was, but the fact is, McNabb hasn't played a full season in 3 years, and he hasn't played a healthy season in longer. It is very hard to come back from a knee injury, and they are just covering their asses. Loyalty only goes so far, and this is a business. Kolb will be the third string QB, not a threat to D-Nabb, who is obviously their starter until he gets hurt. (no more freak seasons for David.) I think that by getting rid of Garcia, they made the exact opposite statement, ridding themselves of the QB controversy that could have been, because Garcia was great for that West Coast system. Unfortunately with D-Nabb not playing full seasons, you have to have a worthy backup there.
Yes, the Giants did poorly, but many other teams pooped in pots too. You are right, ridding themselves of Garcia did alleviate the QB pressure, but I found it interesting that they went with Kolb right there. Apparently, much like Beck in Miami, Kolb was their man. Many other QBs were available at that position. Personally, I'm going with Drew Stanton as Craig's Darkhorse QB pick of the year. Go Lions!
